Historical
Two years after its establishment, the Alerian Chemical Society published the inaugural issue of its scientific journal, "Journal of the Alerian Chemical Society." Notably, it was the first of its kind in Algeria, addressing the historical absence of such publications before independence. Despite socio-political challenges, the journal maintained a biannual publication schedule, showcasing a blend of mainstream fundamental research and localized, experimental studies catering to specific economic needs. The editorial board, comprising professors from the largest university in Algiers, ensured the journal's quality by accepting articles in Arabic, French, and English. Indexed in Chemical Abstracts, a pivotal reference in chemistry, and subject to a peer-review process involving international experts, the journal gained both visibility and international credibility. From 1991 to 1996, it published 113 articles, with 27.4% focused on applied research and 32.7% co-authored by Algerian and foreign researchers.
The publication of the journal was interrupted between the years 2012 and 2022. However, after the renewal of the members of the Alerian Chemical Society in February 2022, the year 2023 marked the launch of the journal, resuming its activity after a period of hiatus.
